Rogue One: Trailer 2 Top 10 Moments

With just a few months to go until Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits cinema screens, LucasFilm have begun upping the marketing ante – and of course, that brings with it fresh details to pore over as we count down the final days until the Death Star plans are captured by the Rebellion.

Recently, the second, and most likely final, Rogue One trailer was released, bringing with it plenty of iconic moments and thrilling scenes. Some we’d seen before, and you can read more about the last trailer here. This time, we’re focussing on the 10 biggest new scenes from the second Rogue One trailer.

Jyn, whatever I do, I do it to protect you

What could possibly drive a brilliant man to help develop the most dangerous weapon the galaxy has ever known? In the opening scene of the trailer, we get a good idea of what drives Galen Erso, as he (apparently) reluctantly agrees to leave his home with Krennic, allowing a young Jyn to remain undetected and unharmed.

Saving Jyn

rogueonetrailer203

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Rogue One is very much a family story of Jyn saving her father, and here it appears that she is still very much on her own before the Rebellion comes to save her. How did they find her? How do they know who she is? Many questions remain.

Memories of the Jedi Order

rogueonetrailer207

One of Star Wars’ many curiosities is how the Jedi Order has fallen into myth and legend in a mere 30 years since the rise of the Galactic Empire, and here we get a good explanation as to why. With the Empire occupying Jedha, any trace of the once proud Order appears to be being dismantled, revising history to suit the Emperor’s means.

The power we are dealing with here is immeasurable

Krennic’s role in the film as the principle Director aboard the Death Star’s construction project was always going to put him at odds with Vader at one point in the film, yet here we see a similar relationship to Vader and Tarkin in A New Hope, with Krennic speaking as an equal to the Sith Lord. On that Tarkin related note, could it be him walking onto the viewing platform?

If the Empire has this kind of power, what chance do we have?

rogueonetrailer221

While Star Wars Rebels has shown us that the Rebellion isn’t formally organised, Rogue One looks like a significant progression, with a large group of Rebel leaders all coming together to discuss the threat of the Death Star. At this point in the film, the plans appear to have been captured, which leaves an obvious question – what happens in the final act?

AT-STs on Jedha

rogueonetrailer222

Another returning member of the Empire’s impressive arsenal, the AT-ST looks better than ever marauding through the ancient streets of Jedha. It looks like the first major battle of the movie will take place here, but what the ultimate aim is remains a mystery.

They’ve no idea we’re coming

rogueonetrailer227

Jyn, Cassian and K-2SO go undercover in an Imperial facility, potentially on Scarif. Logically, this will be where the plans, or at least the schematics seen in the Rebel meeting, are liberated from the Empire.

X-Wing Battle

rogueonetrailer237

One of the only things that was missing from The Force Awakens was a grand scale space battle, and Rogue One looks set to change that, if this first look at the Rebel fleet in action is anything to go by. Presumably attacking a Death Star construction depot, this looks set to be the Rebellion’s first major victory mentioned in A New Hope.

Save the Rebellion, save the dream

rogueonetrailer243

Hinted at in the last trailer, it appears that Jedha is the first test for the Death Star, and if Saw Gerrara’s impassioned plea is anything to go by, he’s going to feel the brunt of it. So why does Tarkin say Alderaan the first test? (Equally, why is Tarkin even in charge of the Death Star?) We’ll have to wait and see.

Vader

rogueonetrailer245

Not a lot can be gleaned from this scene, other than all these years on, Darth Vader still makes the most imposing entrance of any character. Apparently talking to Krennic, Vader’s entrance oozes menace, and I can’t wait to see him in action.
